There is something about birches that make me stop in my tracks. But today it was the lichens on the birches. Such pretty shades of white and green. If you look closely, there are all sorts of browns, grays, yellows and blues. All complementing each other beautifully. 母に教わった：山の土は常にちょっとずつ下へ動く。険しい山でも、Soil Erosion （土壌浸食？）によって、いいずれはなだらかな丘に変わっていく。利用者の多い登山道は特にこのプロセスを早める（草がなくなるから雨が降ると土が雨と一緒に下へ流れる）。これを防ぐために階段を設置する。木の根っこはある意味階段と同じ役目をする。木の根っこが雨や登山者による土の流れを止めているから。続きを読む…

ものが枯れていくのを見るのも楽しい

切り花は枯れていくのが何だか悲しいけど、地面に植わっているお花は、枯れると同時に種作りしている。来年のために種を取りたい場合、結構からからに乾くまで置いておかなきゃいけないから見た目的に悪い。でも、種が熟す時期は、いろんあことが同時に起きてすごく面白い。まだ頑張っている花もいれば、既にこぼれ種が発芽しているものもある。生き残る花、これからどうなるか分からない小さな芽。切なくも美しくも見える。続きを読む…

白樺は美しいね～ いつも少し開けている林の中、あの明るい白い幹が見える瞬間、白樺だ～と喜ぶ人が多いでしょう。でも今日は、「何で何で？」性格が出てきて、何で上高地の川沿いにこんなに白樺があるの？と思った…続きを読む…
